Located on the North Dominican Republic Atlantic Ocean Coastline, 11 mi/18 km E of Puerto Plata. The beach of Sosúa offers a kilometer long beach of white sand, a bay of crystal waters and coral reef heads, the best scuba dive area and aquatic activities on the north coast.. Sosua’s agricultural consist of coffee, cacao, rice, bananas; and cattle. Fishing and swimming are big activities of Sosua. On Trujillo's invitation, on the eve of and during World War II, 22,230 acres/8,996 ha were set aside for agricultural development for Jewish refugees from Europe. Although 5,000 visas were issued, only 700 persons actually settled or passed through Sosua by 1947, and only ½ in agricultural. About 20 families still remain. In Sosúa, you can still find a few of the lovely handcrafted houses built by Jewish settlers in the 1940s. Occasionally referred to as the “Acapulco of DR,” this area is known for its unique nightlife.
