On the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic, La Romana was once a sleepy sugar-cane town that specialized in cattle raising. La Romana is now home to Casa de Campo, one of the world's largest resorts and top golfing destinations. The "Teeth of the Dog" golf course is world-renown, and just east of Casa de Campo is Altos de Chavón, a charming replica of a 16th century village. Many international and local artists perform at "Altos de Chavon", and artistic university. The village is located on the cliffs above the chavon river. Here you will find a museum, an artists colony and three major art galleries.
La Romana is a "company" town and the Central Romana Corporation owns the majority of the town. Its filled with beautiful beaches and many hotels and resorts. There are also many growing suburban areas with huge mansions that are surrounded by tropical trees.
